The 49-year-old actor accepted the honor virtually from Australia during the awards show, which aired on on Sunday night (May 16). But he didn’t accept the trophy as himself, he accepted it as Borat.
As Borat spoke, he was then interrupted by Ali G. The two characters the argued on stage before the real Sacha shooed them away so he could accept the honor.
“Thank you, MTV. To the millions of fans out there who voted for me, I salute you. This is yours,” Sacha said in his acceptance speech. “I’m so honored by it. I’m just a human being creating complex, nuanced characters. Sophisticated tools to expose —”
At that time, Sacha was interrupted by his character Brüno. Fed up by all of his alter egos, Sacha joked that he was “cancelling” himself before leaving the stage.
Brüno was then joined at the podium by Sacha‘s The Dictator character Aladeen before the screen went fuzzy and faded away.
